AppMaker vs. AI app builders
Replit, Lovable and Base44 are capable, fast-moving products that turn a description into a working, hosted app. AppMaker shares the starting point and takes a narrower path: structured business applications with a fixed architecture you can open and edit visually.
What they do well
- Replit builds and publishes apps from natural language with its Agent, with a managed PostgreSQL database, authentication, hosting and monitoring built in, several publishing options, and GitHub import and sync.
- Lovable describes itself as a full-stack AI development platform. Lovable Cloud provides database, storage, authentication and functions on a Supabase foundation, Lovable hosts the app, and two-way GitHub sync lets you work on the code elsewhere.
- Base44, owned by Wix since June 2025, is a no-code AI platform for apps, websites and AI agents, with backend, authentication, integrations and hosting built in, and two-way GitHub sync on its Builder plan and above.
All three are strong at rapid prototyping, publishing to a live URL in minutes, and serving a broad audience from non-developers to engineering teams. Several also offer enterprise controls such as SSO.
Where they fit better
- You want your app hosted and live for real users today.
- Websites, landing pages and consumer-style apps, not only business tools.
- You want a mature product with enterprise controls and a large team behind it.
- Broad prompt-to-anything flexibility matters more than a fixed structure.
Where AppMaker fits better
- Data-driven business applications: records, approvals, roles, dashboards.
- A predictable architecture: every app is forms, data and server scripts in the same places, whoever or whatever built it.
- Direct developer control in Design mode, with a visual form designer next to the code.
- A free development platform with no subscription.
- A standalone Node.js export that runs on a server you choose, without the designer.
Important differences
| AppMaker | Replit, Lovable, Base44 | |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | Structured business applications | Broad: apps, websites, and more |
| Architecture | A fixed platform model the AI builds on | Generated per app on each product's own stack |
| Editing | Build mode for AI, Design mode for visual and code editing | AI chat plus code editing; each product has its own editors |
| Hosting | Not for production during the beta; export and run it yourself | Built-in hosting and publishing |
| Code outside the product | Standalone Node.js export | GitHub sync on all three, with differences in what runs outside their platforms |
| Maturity | Public beta from an independent developer | Established products from larger companies |
Which should you choose?
Choose Replit, Lovable or Base44 to prototype quickly across many kinds of apps, or when you need hosting and a mature service now. Choose AppMaker when you are building a business application and value a consistent architecture, visual control and a standalone export, and you are comfortable evaluating a public beta.
